Adopt a Dog

Our dogs available for adoption are all living in private foster homes and are available for you to meet. 


Our adoption fee includes a general health check, flea and worming treatment, vaccination, microchipping and desexing.  If the dog is too young for desexing, a voucher is provided.  A 14 day adoption trial period is available when adopting an animal from BARRC.


BARRC treat every adopter as an individual, rather than meeting every application with a rigid set of questions that require yes/no answers destined to disqualify them at some point along the way, we are striving to work with adopters to be the best pet owners they can be.  This means working with each adopter to help them find an appropriate pet that fits their specific lifestyle.  By supporting adopters rather than judging them, we can place more animals in homes and shorten their length of stay in foster care.


Post-adoption support and remaining in touch with adopters plays an important role in trying to ensure that the adoption is successful over the lifetime of the animal.

  • Male, 9yrs old

  • Medium - large Staffy x

  • Loves everyone he meets

  • Affectionate

  • Easy going

  • Has basic training

  • Fine with full time workers

  • Can occasionally pull on lead, but walks nicely with a harness

  • Loves his daily walks

  • Likely to chase cats

  • Untested with children; tends to jump up in excitement, so may be best suited to older children who won't be knocked over.

  • Untested with dogs; play dates have been scheduled for us to learn this information - watch this space!


'Active & Intelligent'

  • Male, 3yrs old

  • Medium Staffy x Red Heeler

  • Loves everyone he meets

  • Very affectionate

  • Loves to play

  • Understands basic commands

  • Very intelligent and responds to training very well

  • LOVES fetch

  • Active and needs daily exercise

  • Good with children 5yrs+

  • Needs work on his social skills with other dogs; has the potential to make doggy pals, but at this stage he will need to be the only dog in the home

  • Can bark at first when left alone, but eventually settles and gets used to the routine.


'Sweet & Loyal'

  • Male, 1.5yrs old

  • Medium Heeler x

  • Dog social

  • Friendly with all people

  • Nice manners

  • House-trained

  • Walks nicely on lead

  • Loves his daily exercise

  • Not met cats

  • Not suited to birds

  • Playful and affectionate

  • Intelligent and easy to train

  • Not met young children, but he is very polite, gentle and friendly in nature.

  • Rides well in the car

  • Needs 6ft fencing that cannot be dug out of, or a boundary system, otherwise Ted will take himself on adventures!


'Affectionate & Smart' 

  • Female, 3yrs old

  • Medium staffy x labrador

  • Likes to have as much human company as possible and my whine or dig to escape if left alone for long periods of time.

  • Very affectionate

  • Not suited to cats, chooks or livestock.

  • Has basic training.

  • Enjoys her daily walks and adventures but not highly active.

  • Social with male dogs of medium-large size; can be dominant with females and small breed.

  • Friendly to everyone she meets.



  • Female, 1.5yrs old

  • Large mixed breed

  • Very friendly

  • Loves to sleep on the bed with you

  • Dog social

  • Has basic training

  • Likes to have company

  • Can occasionally pull on lead, but walks nicely with a harness

  • Likely to chase cats

  • Fine with children

  • Loves to play

  • Affectionate

  • Suited to low fencing as not an escape artist.

  • House-trained

  • Rides well in the car
